Her father, Mr. Grinn was a man of remarkable charm and influence, deeply adored by his wife and daughter. But tragedy struck when he met a mysterious and untimely death.

Grief consumed Susan’s mother, Miss Agatha, who found herself lost in sorrow, wandering the castle like a shadow, unable to bear the weight of her loss. Those around her, hoping to bring her solace, arranged for her to remarry. Her new husband, Mr. Austin was a rich and intelligent gentleman. This union brought a small sense of order back into the family.

Yet this fragile peace was nothing more than an illusion.
