Campaigns
SteamData Connect lets you create UTM tracking campaigns to measure the effectiveness of your marketing efforts. Each campaign generates short, trackable links that capture click data broken down by source, medium, device, country, and more.
Overview
A UTM campaign consists of:
- Campaign — a named container linked to one of your Steam games
- Links — individual short URLs, each carrying UTM parameters, generated under that campaign
When someone clicks a link, utm.bar records the event. SteamData aggregates those events and surfaces them in your dashboard.
Creating a Campaign
- Go to Connect → UTM Campaigns in the dashboard sidebar
- Click New Campaign
- Fill in the form:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Campaign Name | A descriptive label, e.g. "Steam Summer Sale 2025" |
| Base URL | The destination URL visitors land on after clicking |
| Game | Associate the campaign with one of your Steam apps (optional) |
- Click Create — the campaign is created in SteamData and synced to utm.bar automatically
Permission required: Only team Admins and Owners can create, edit, or delete campaigns. Members can view campaigns and stats.
Managing Links
Creating a Link
- Open a campaign and click New Link
- Fill in the UTM parameters:
| Parameter | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
utm_source | Where the traffic comes from | twitter, youtube, reddit |
utm_medium | The marketing channel | social, video, cpc |
utm_campaign | Identifies the campaign (auto-filled) | summer-sale-2025 |
utm_term | Paid keyword (optional) | indie-game |
utm_content | Differentiates ad creatives (optional) | banner-v1 |
- Click Create — a short link is generated and ready to share
Enabling / Disabling a Link
Click the status toggle in the link's action menu to enable or disable it. Disabled links still track clicks but can be paused for analysis.
Editing and Deleting Links
Use the ⋮ menu on each row to edit or delete a link. Deleting a link is permanent.
Viewing Link Statistics
Click the bar chart icon on any link row to open the Link Stats drawer. Available metrics:

UTM Parameter Reference
| Parameter | Required | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
utm_source | Recommended | Identifies the traffic source (e.g. twitter) |
utm_medium | Recommended | Identifies the marketing channel (e.g. social) |
utm_campaign | Recommended | Identifies the campaign name or ID |
utm_term | Optional | Identifies paid search keywords |
utm_content | Optional | Differentiates ads or links pointing to the same URL |
Tips & Best Practices
- Use consistent naming — stick to lowercase and hyphens (e.g.
utm_source=youtube, notYouTube) - One link per creative — create separate links for different ad creatives so you can isolate performance
- Archive instead of delete — disable links you no longer need rather than deleting them, to preserve historical data
- Check the time zone — stats are displayed in your local time zone; keep this in mind when comparing daily data
