Campaigns

SteamData Connect lets you create UTM tracking campaigns to measure the effectiveness of your marketing efforts. Each campaign generates short, trackable links that capture click data broken down by source, medium, device, country, and more.

Overview

A UTM campaign consists of:

  • Campaign — a named container linked to one of your Steam games
  • Links — individual short URLs, each carrying UTM parameters, generated under that campaign

When someone clicks a link, utm.bar records the event. SteamData aggregates those events and surfaces them in your dashboard.

Creating a Campaign

  1. Go to Connect → UTM Campaigns in the dashboard sidebar
  2. Click New Campaign
  3. Fill in the form:
FieldDescription
Campaign NameA descriptive label, e.g. "Steam Summer Sale 2025"

  1. Click Create — the campaign is created in SteamData and synced to utm.bar automatically

Permission required: Only team Admins and Owners can create, edit, or delete campaigns. Members can view campaigns and stats.

UTM Parameter Reference

ParameterRequiredPurpose

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use consistent naming — stick to lowercase and hyphens (e.g. utm_source=youtube, not YouTube)
  • One link per creative — create separate links for different ad creatives so you can isolate performance
  • Archive instead of delete — disable links you no longer need rather than deleting them, to preserve historical data
  • Check the time zone — stats are displayed in your local time zone; keep this in mind when comparing daily data
